This case involves a woman who slacked off, was fired, and then filed a claim for wrongful dismissal. She was unsuccessful because audit software tracking her laptop activities uncovered, she billed for unfinished work on a number of files. Secondly, she overbilled by 50 hours for work she didn’t do. And third, none of her justifications held water; she claimed, for example, “I worked on hard copy,” but there was no evidence that she had printed that many pages.
While only a minority of businesses currently require this type of program, it’s likely that this will change in the near future. Crackz for such software that let users alter the input the program uses to make decisions may prove to be quite popular. It’s just a logging rootkit, so it can be easily bypassed by another rootkit that sits in between them.
Perhaps this will create a demand for apps that can circumvent audit software. Given how important it is to update the crack as soon as the audit software is updated, a rental license model would be preferable. which calls for dedicated programming time. Things are bound to heat up once audit software firms begin hiring game anti-cheat developers to work on their systems.
Avoiding Timekeeping Programs
The currently available hacks, such as virtual employee monitoring software, automated mouse movement, turning off the software, using a virtual machine (VM), using a second computer, etc., are not particularly exciting.
Developers have concluded that making audit software more intrusive will prevent these workarounds from being effective. Listen carefully. Capture images. Allow managers remote access to keep an eye on things in real time. It’s pretty dystopian. but open to spoofing attacks as well.
The auditory sense is the one that is most easily fooled. An AI could simply listen to the world around it for a while, then replicate that sound with a few tweaks. Tools exist that can mimic a person’s voice from just a sound clip.
Hiring a worker to complete your tasks for you is a creative way to circumvent time tracking software. Arbitrage at work! All signs point to this being a “bullshit job.” It would be ideal to have it done mechanically.
Tracking employee work patterns to identify outliers is a novel approach that has been proposed. or to determine the optimal times to take screenshots of workers. What this tells me is that AIs can figure out what a human being should be doing at any given time. Why not have an AI that, for the purposes of the time tracking software, mimics that pattern of work?
Unlike a human, an A.I. can easily draw convincing fake screens for the audit software to screenshot.
